Dr. McNelis specializes in providing individual psychotherapy to adults with various mental health issues. Her orientation is primarily cognitive-behavioral in nature, meaning that she encourages her clients to challenge and alter negative thought processes in order to influence behaviors in a positive direction. She also incorporates other theories into practice as necessary, to tailor therapy to the unique needs of her individual clients.
Dr. McNelis encourages clients to primarily focus on the here-and-now, specifically targeting ways of managing and coping with problematic symptoms. She believes this serves to empower clients toward continual progress, as their symptoms begin to alleviate and they experience an overall improvement in mood. She promotes active engagement, both within and outside of the therapeutic setting, so that her clients are able to consistently focus on achieving their goals in an efficient manner.
