Changes Psychological Services, PLLC is proud to announce "Responding to Suicidal Clients in Practice: Assessment, Intervention and Ethical Considerations." This one-day seminar (9am-4:30pm) is being offered to psychologists, professional counselors and social workers for six (6) continuing education credits. Please see below for further information.
One of the biggest stressors of being a mental health professional involves encountering suicidal clients. For those in private practice, this stress may be compounded by not having colleagues immediately available to consult with, or not having staff to assist in emergency situations. In addition, many clinicians feel that they lack expertise in managing suicidality, often due to limited training and/or knowledge regarding how to respond to clients in crisis.
In this seminar, Dr. Kirsten L. McNelis, licensed clinical psychologist, will discuss suicide risk assessment and intervention strategies to utilize in practice. She will also address the importance of adherence to, and consideration of, ethical guidelines in the context of responding to suicidal clients. In addition, she will present several case examples and scenarios from her professional experience to illustrate intervention options. She will also review local emergency resources and services available to assist mental health professionals.
